Accountability - Know your part; keep your area and cubby clean; Put your instrument in the case in the proper assigned area.
We respect - Listen with your eyes as well as your ears. Show respect for people and equipment.
Safe - Always carry your instrument with 2 hands; walk in the bandroom; Keep hands, feet, objects and comments to yourself.
Discipline
Cox Middle School and Maury County Board of Education policies will be followed.

It is the responsibility of the student to have at least 2 working reeds at all times.
Grading
Formative (Classwork, Rehearsal Techniques) 40%
Summative (Quizzes, Performances) 60%
Playing Quizzes: Students are given several days to play an assigned piece that has been worked on in class.
Students from time to time also may be given the option of several pieces to play. Students are expected to be
prepared and give the best performance they can. The expectation is to play. Speak with director if you need additional help with playing in front of others.
Rehearsal Techniques: Students are expected to participate in class daily. Participation includes having your
instrument, book, music, reed, pencil and following procedures regarding discipline. Students earn points daily for participation within these guidelines. Points will be tallied at the end of each nine weeks and are part of the formative portion of their grade.
Performances: Students are required to be at ALL performances and wear appropriate concert attire.
Performances are part of the summative portion of their final grade. Students are only excused from a performance due to illness with a doctor’s note, death in the family, or religious observances. Students are responsible for getting a make up assignment from the directors.
Concert Attire: Boys should wear white collared tops with a solid colored tie with black pants and shoes to all performances. Girls may wear a solid white dress shirt or blouse with black pants or modest skirt and black dress shoes. Skirt must meet school dress code. NOJEANS, TSHIRTS, or TENNIS SHOES. Students involved in pep band and jazz band will wear their band shirt with shorts or jeans. Students are to wear costumes to the Halloween concert in October.
Support: It is the responsibility of every student and/or parent to support the group. Some support the group through participation in fundraisers while others volunteer to work in the concession stand at ball games. Others make a donation, chaperone, or help with other needs of the band.
Lessons:Lessons are vital to the success of the individual player. If you are interested in lessons please contact the band directors for information.
School owned instruments: Students that use a school owned instrument are to get the proper paperwork signed by a parent or guardian before they are allowed to take them home. School owned instruments are checked out to a student much like library books and text books. It is the responsibility of the student to take care of the instrument and let a band director know if repair is needed. DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT YOURSELF. Instruments that are checked out to students include—French Horn, Baritone, Tuba, Bassoon, Oboe, Bass Clarinet or Bari Sax.
Personal instruments/materials: It is the responsibility of the student to have their band instrument and or drum sticks and bags labeled in such a way as to make it very easy to find. Parents should copy the serial number down at home in case instruments get confused. If you need help finding the serial number please ask a band director for assistance. PLEASE LET A DIRECTOR LOOK AT A "BROKEN" INSTRUMENT BEFORE GOING BACK TO THE MUSIC STORE FOR REPAIRS.
